Silver Route

The Silver Route, a project undertaken by the Historical Archives and Mining Museum, Civil Association, is a cultural tourism circuit located in the state of Hidalgo that proposes to the visitor an integral, novel, entertaining and educational vision of the historical and cultural heritage of the former mining district of Real del Monte and Pachuca, and that integrates the municipalities of Mineral de la Reforma, Mineral del Chico, Huasca and Omitlán, towns that grew along with this industry and that today house historical heritage sites such as mines, ore processing plants and historical monuments (civil and religious) that were built as a result of the bonanzas of the time and that at the present time give rise to a singular cultural landscape.

Within the proposed route of the Silver Route, we have also included areas and places of the natural landscape that create a wonderful, magical environment, such as the ecological reserve of the Hiloche forest and the Chico National Park. In addition to providing the visitor with the location and type of services that they will find in the places proposed in the Itinerary, we have included essential notes and concepts about the historical, economic, social, technological and geographical context that will help to understand the role, importance and uniqueness of each of the heritage sites. In this way, we seek to integrate them as part of a single industrial process that determined to a great extent the social conformation and transformation of the environment, turning them into testimonies of a historical and cultural process that we must preserve.

At the same time, this tour proposes an approach to the cultural values inherent to this heritage: the recovery of the memory of the work, the contribution of the workers, businessmen and personalities that with their effort materialized and nourished the life and development of this mining district, thus forging an identity throughout its almost five centuries of productive activity.

The Silver Route is also a useful tool for planning and organizing tours since it allows the creation of itineraries according to the interest of those who consult it, including proposals for historical or technological periods that seek to promote an educational experience. Like any guide, it offers essential information on distances, location, services, schedules and means of communication. We trust that this journey through the history and industrial heritage of the former district of Real del Monte and Pachuca that we put in your hands today through the Silver Route, will motivate you to travel around Hidalgo, to value its heritage, culture, landscape and its people without whom none of this would exist.
